Is the iphone 3G stand by switch and blind suppose to be slightly slanted?
I realise my iPhone 3G is slightly higher on the left and the right is flat. It is suppose to be slanted?

It is not suppose to be similar to this. You might want to return it for another at an Apple Store.
Working with the store return is easy. I appointment Apple support and tell them the problem then ask to hold it returned at a local store. They then setup an appointment for you. This way you can essentially totter in at that time frame and have it looked at by a human being, instead of over the phone, and they will replace it. They are really good about this stuff. I own returned two of my 2G.
