Can I turn the phone part bad on my iphone?
What I mean is, I will be going to the UK soon and I don't want to win charged roaming or anything but still want to use the ipod and safari features? Is this possible?

You'll be charged with the sole purpose if you USE the phone. Do not make call and do not answer call and you will not be charged.
Yes you can turn the phone part rotten. Thats what the air plane mode is for (that path you'll still be able to use the iPod constituent on the plane over too).
It isn't just as simple as ignore the calls. The phone is constantly checking for push e-mail, voicemail, etc. as long as the phone piece is active it will look for those things and you'll credible incure charges for it. By turning off the radio next to airplane mode you'll elimate that.
Safari wouldn't work though. It would turn off the wi-fi radio surrounded by addition to the celluar radio.
