Answers:yes it is possible but it takes a long time andif u dont want to do that afterwards it might cost you a few grandIts possible but the question of whether its a honest idea is something else.
Right immediately apple has taken the legitimate stances that any unlocks or 3rd party aps are a vandalism of the license agreement and void the warranty. They also stated that within would be no guarantee that future updates would not render the phones useless. Sure satisfactory, when the last update come out (1.1.1) they bricked every iPhone that was software unlocked. Some own gotten them back by getting an elder version of the software but apparently it have worked for everyone.
So thats what the state of it is now. You could achieve a phone and unlock it but you'd need to engender sure that it isn't running the latest software and that you be never to update it. Plus if anything were to crop up to it apple wouldn't honor the warranty. you can unlock it* or even buy it unlocked for really cheap from google checkout. BUT you can NOT update the iphone if you unlock it. it must remain surrounded by version 1.0.2. if not it will relock and you wont be able to use it.

yes it is possible to unlock the iphone to use on any GSM meet people. It only take some sorftware installs now.
