If I were to buy an Iphone, am I obligated to buy it near a plan or can i just buy it minus one?

I wish to unlock it myself but if I buy it from apple, am I obligated to buy it near a plan? I really dont want a plan seeing as I live in Canada :P

Answers:    If you buy an iphone, you do not inevitability to buy a plan for it. Here's the problem the phone needs to be hooked up to "itunes" surrounded by order to register it and spark off it and also to get updates. If you unlock the phone which is against Apples policy, later when you hook it up to itunes it will automatically kill your phone, making it an expensive composition weight. That is why the iphone is "EXCLUSIVELY" At&t.
Canada, eh?

If you want to get calls, you own to have a plan on Rogers. They hold exlusive rights to the iphone, like ATT does contained by the states.
