Can i use my iphone in the U.k when i move here, will an o2 sim card work?

I bought an iphone when they came out surrounded by the summer but im moving to england in january, immediately that iphones are out in the U.K do you reflect ill know how to use a o2 sim card ( which is the uk carrier for iphones) within my iphone if i sign up for the contract in the u.k.
