Okay so I hold an iPhone and I be wondering what is the point surrounded by the dock if you can completely charge the?
phone without it? Does it have another purpose? Are you even supposed to use it when charging the phone? What is the point contained by the dock?

The dock doesn't really serve any major purpose other then giving you a spot to hang on to and display your iPhone when you're not using it. It is functional for charging it, but not essential for anything really.
The iPhone stands up as opposed to lying flat =P.
There's also a line out port which can connect to speakers if you want to (the rank out port sends a higher quality signal than the headphone port...so the nouns quality is significantly better).
